Over the past several days, many of you might have received an email from what appeared to be a legitimate Fairfield University Information Technology Services email account. The email linked to a web page that asked for your password and additional information. This type of email is known as Phishing. Phishing is a fraudulent process used by spammers to acquire sensitive information from users such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details. The recipients of these emails are often deceived by phishing attempts since messages appear to be sent by legitimate and trustworthy sources. It is no surprise that 96% of security breaches occur due to users mistakenly participating in these types of attacks. Please remember that Information Technology Services (ITS) will NEVER ask you to provide user names or passwords. Under *NO* circumstances should you share your passwords with anyone. If you receive an e-mail that asks for your password or other account information such as email address or user name:
- DO NOT Forward it to anyone aside from email@example.com
- DO NOT Click on any links in the suspicious email
- DO NOT give out your NetID Credentials or any information requested
- DO Delete it immediately.
