The old citation thingy doesn't have the new MLA format; so we updated it to use the Worldcat Discovery citation API instead. Only works item that has OCLC#, else it'll say "no citation info available please see our citation guides"

Latest Summon hack: Find Similar Resources

So Ex Libris has recently added Bx recommender feature in Summon (and allow us to use for free for 1 year). We and reference librarians played with it but didn't think it makes too much sense; so we did our own thing. Basically we allow use to select up to 3 subjects that tie to any record. See attached images.

PlumX Metrics Widget on EBSCO Databases

It looks like EBSCO added a PlumX Metrics widgets to most of their DBs. (it just gets added automatically - we didn't choose to) If you want to change it, let the Tech Dept knows. p.s. JM has specifically asked to have to PlumX widget turned on in Literary Reference Center Plus.

Ebrary ebooks will be redirected to Ebook Central on Jan 4th, 2017

Hi all,

Our migration of EBL & Ebrary into the combined Ebook Central platform is almost complete. Our Ebrary migration are scheduled on Jan 4th 2017. (EBL has been migrated on 9/6/2016)

There’s virtually nothing for you or users to do. Everything will be redirected automatically. From users’ perspective, it’s just a branding change.

Ebrary Interface:

Ebook Central interface:

The only thing users might want to do is if they have books on Ebrary bookshelf (or note and etc) they can migrate it manually to Ebook Central. Basically, after the migration, user can click on “Bookshelf” link on the Ebook Central site and then click the button “Move ebrary Bookshelf” and follow on screen instructions. (I’ll send out another email on Jan 4th to confirm that it’s working)

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns (for collection development related questions, please talk to CF directly),

If you have any issue with not receiving an email on your account. Please follow this troubleshooting step.

 1. go back to the service that supposed to send you an email. Try the same thing you did, but this time with your personal email address (anything e.g.

a) If you DO get the email on your personal account BUT NOT on your account — it’s probably caused by our campus email filter, let Wit or Robert know (or ITS directly)

b) if you DO NOT get the email on BOTH email accounts — probably something is wrong on the vendor end, contact the appropriate person.

Summon update is live

All of our customizations in Summon should now be working. (the search bar is now RED!)

There are a few changes which could affect people:

The right side pane no longer houses the details for items (this is present in the More Details dropdown within each item)

The facets now include excluding options

Some other things just look different, play around with it and get familiar.

See below for details of the update. Another post coming soon once we update our customization.

Hello, all,

Thank you for attending this week’s webinar highlighting the Summon roadmap and next release.

You can view one of our recorded webinars using the following URL:

In addition to the webinar recording we encourage you to review our user interface enhancements overview to gain more details into the upcoming UI changes.

As always, let me know if you have questions. Thanks!

EAST retention committment

About 81,000 items in our collection have been marked for retention commitment for the EAST project. We have added that info into item records in Millennium. Item records that we must retain (until 2031) will have a field called “Action Note” like this

K Action Note 583 1[b] |acommitted to retain|c20160630|d20310630|fEAST|u|5CtFau

Here’s what it look like on Millennium OPAC (public side). When you click to see a full record of an item that is marked for retention, you’ll see this

Here’s what it look like in the Millennium client (staff side). I’ve also update the delete rules so it won’t allow you to delete item or bib that has item record with marc tag 583 attached to it.

If you try to delete it, you’ll get this error

Let us know if you have any questions,

Changes coming online this month (8/16)

As we approach the end of summer there seem to be a bunch of changes occurring, some outside of our control.

Here is a list of the changes occurring this month.

The Journal Locator has a new interface that is live now:

When you click export to refworks on databases and in the catalog you will now be prompted to choose which refworks:

Summon is due to have a new interface deployed on August 24.

The LibGuides are currently undergoing a restructuring which will make each research guide work as a single page instead of several tabbed.

The University will likewise be deploying a redesigned on 8/28.  Wit & I should get a sneak preview earlier that week.  It should not affect the library portion of the website.

The University is moving to replace My.Fairfield and will be using a solution called OneCampus.  It will operate contemporaneously during the Fall Semester with an eventual complete switch at the end of the calendar year.

More Prominent Book Review Indicator In Summon

As mentioned last week in the web committee, here is what prepending “Book Review: “ to titles of book reviews would look like in Summon.  Note result #4.

This will add that phrase to the title of all Book Review results that are marked as such in Summon and do not contain the phrase “book review” in their title already.

As always please send me all questions and concerns you may have.  Hopefully this is a little change that has a big impact on Book Review clicks.

Bento Box Search is now in site header

Click on the magnifying glass icon and a search box will appear. Learn more about "Bento Box" style search from a post a few months ago.

Millennium Catalog Scope fixed & EzProxy upgrade

The collection searching in Millennium OPAC works slightly differently for “Circulating Books” and “Journals, Magazines & Newspapers” now.

Circulating books should now include items from Curriculum Collection which are books.

Full list : Books in stacks, folio, curriculum, faculty, popular reading, new books, scheetz, Chinese Corner

Journals etc. should now include magazines in the popular reading collection.

Full list: Journals, E-journals, newspapers in any location

These had previously been missing due to the way Millennium works; this new way bypasses it.  If you notice any odd behaviors or believe other items should be included in these groups please inform me.

Library Proxy Server (EzPRoxy) has been upgraded to version 6.1.16

The search box in the footer that used to be the library website search is now a"Bento box" search! learn more here and here

Search in this box to perform a search in almost every system / materials type we we have. User will also have an option to drill down into each silo.
