Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I see my courses in Blackboard?

Courses and enrollments populate in Blackboard 2 times a day. If your registration and payments were processed today, please wait at least 12 hours for the next update to process. If you believe you have registered for the course and it is not displaying, we recommend that you contact the Registrar's Office to confirm your enrollment is complete.

I see my course/organization, but why can't I access it?

All courses are unavailable to students by default to allow faculty to upload course content before the semester starts while enrollments may still be changing. Some faculty do not use Blackboard beyond sharing the syllabus, or they may email you directly with information on accessing courses materials. If you believe you should have access to the course in Blackboard, please contact your instructor requesting that they make the course available.

How does Blackboard support accessibility?

In addition to text exceptions and being built with accessibility in mind, we have licensed Blackboard Ally which works seamlessly with Blackboard to promote the accessibility of your course content. Ally automatically creates alternative versions of your course files. This allows students to choose the type of file they want that best suits their needs. While you're in the process of improving files, students still access alternative copies.

How do I send email using Blackboard?

The email tool allows you to send email to other people in your course without launching a separate email program and having to look up your instructor and/or peer emails. You can send email to individual users, the entire class, or to groups of users.

  1. Log into your course and click on Send Email from within the Course Menu.

  2. Select a recipient type. Instructors can send email to all or selected individual Users, Students, Groups, Teaching Assistants, Instructors or Observers. From a Blackboard Learn course, email cannot be sent to anyone who is not a mem- ber of the course.

  3. The names and email addresses of your students appear in the To field. Your name and email address appears in the From field.

  4. Enter a Subject.

  5. Compose your message in the text box and use the Text Editor to customize the text, insert hyperlinks, images, bullets, etc..

  6. Check the Return Receipt box to have a copy of the message sent to your Inbox.

The Email tool in Blackboard simply allows users to send messages to other course members’ external email addresses. It does not store Sent messages so in order to keep a record of messages sent from within Blackboard, it is recommended that you always check the Return Receipt box.

  7. To attach files, click on Attach File and then Browse your computer for your file. You can attach more than one file.
